field - the DMField context
type - a known method

DMFIELDDA - a field defined only by its values at the corners of a DMDA
DMFIELDDS - a field defined by a discretization over a mesh set with DMSetField()
DMFIELDSHELL - a field defined by arbitrary callbacks
